Climber’s Loop Hike
Come on out to Foster Falls for a moderate hike around the Climber’s Loop, where folks come from all around the region to scale the high cliffs. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes as this hike does cover some rough terrain. Bring water and a camera to capture the beauty of the towering cliffs!

Journaling for Beginners
Have you ever wanted to capture the beauty of nature down on paper? Join Ranger Katie on a short hike to the Stone Door to see what we can find along the way! We will make stops along the way to draw or write down the birds, insects and plants that we happen to see. Small notepads and pencils will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own journaling material. Meet at the Stone Door Ranger Station.

Meet Ranger Katie at the Stone Door ranger station for a moderate 4 mile hike along the Big Creek Rim trail to see the cliffs and then through the woods along the Laurel trail to learn about some of the plants growing in this area. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water.

Come hiking with Ranger Katie to see four waterfalls, numerous bluffs, and two historic sites in less than one mile! This is a short hike with sections of rocky terrain. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water.

Sycamore Falls Critter Catch
Join Ranger Park at the Grundy Forest parking lot for a moderate hike to the Sycamore Falls and help him search for the aquatic animals that call it home. Wear sturdy shoes to hike in and bring water shoes to wear in the water.

11:00 a.m. Laurel Falls Loop
Join Ranger Katie as we learn about the birds, plants and animals on our way to the Laurel Falls and historic site. This will be a short hike with a steep descent to the falls. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water.
1:30 p.m. Greeter Falls Swim
Cool off at the Lower Greeter falls with a swim! Meet Ranger Katie at the Greeter Falls parking lot. We will hike to the falls and then relax and swim. Bring a bathing suit, towel and sturdy shoes.
3:00 p.m. Hiking Through History
The coke ovens formed an important and interesting period of history for the area and are always a treat to visit; Join Park at the Grundy Lakes parking area for an easy hike around the lakes to enjoy the scenery and to learn the history of the ovens. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water.
8:30 p.m. Mysteries of the Night Sky
Ever wonder just how far away that star or planet is? Or why the stars flicker? Maybe you’re just curious about the different patterns or shapes the heavenly bodies make; whatever the interest, meet Park at the Visitor’s Center for a fun and informative look at the night-time sky!

Meet Ranger Park at the Buggy Top trailhead in the Carter State Natural Area for a strenuous 4 mile hike to one of the most stunning areas of the park. Hike through varying degrees of forest and see one of the largest cave openings in Tennessee. We will NOT be entering the cave due to White Nose Syndrome. Want to see a few birds on the wing? There’s no better place to see birds of prey catching thermals as they glide past the cliffs near the Stone Door. Meet Ranger Katie at the Stone Door for a short hike to the cliffs to learn about our winged friends. Bring binoculars and sturdy shoes.

Looking for an easy afternoon outing? Meet at the Grundy Forest Parking area for a guided hike through the Grundy forest. Keep a sharp eye out for the various woodland critters that inhabit the Cumberland Plateau! Wear Sturdy shoes and bring water.
Highland Yacht Club offers summer sailing lessons
ARNOLD AIR FORCE BASE, TENN. – The Highland Yacht Club (HYC) is offering free adult sailing lessons this summer. Adult beginner lessons are scheduled June 29 at 10 a.m. and intermediate sailing lessons are scheduled July 13 at 9 a.m.
Larry Thomas, a certified U.S. sailing instructor, will teach both classes which include safe sailing fundamentals and tactics in the morning session followed by lunch and afternoon hands on sailing. Boats are provided, but participants should bring a life jacket due to limited quantities.
Classes are presented by the Yacht Club as a community out-reach program, families are also welcome to participate.
The HYC is affiliated with Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) and is located on Woods Reservoir between the AEDC FAM Camp and the Gossick Leadership Center.
