Tullahoma Utilities Board to Celebrate National Drinking Water Week

tub

Tullahoma Utilities Board (TUB) will celebrate the American Water Works Association’s National Drinking Water Week May 5-11 of this year.

Additionally, TUB will be hosting its annual Drinking Water Week Celebration on Thursday, May 9th 3:30-5:30 p.m.

This year’s celebration will consist of free pizza, drinks, a prize wheel with cash money giveaways, a bounce house provided by the Tullahoma Fire Department, and much, much more! This year, the staff of TUB is incorporating a few carnival-style games for attendees.

Furthermore, the Tullahoma High School cheerleaders will be on-site to paint faces, and there will be several water tapping demonstrations throughout the afternoon by employees of the Water Department. This year’s Water Tapping Team—comprised of Jason Wells, Mark Alcocer, Wayne Tippler, and Travis Partin—will travel to Louisville, Kentucky, in July to showcase their skills and compete against other utility teams. These employees work diligently to ensure the quality and delivery of Tullahoma’s water.

“Drinking Water Week provides an excellent time to focus on the role we all play in understanding and caring for our water supplies and systems,” said American Water Works Assoication (AWWA) Executive Director David LaFrance. “Let’s use this opportunity to help protect all of our communities’ health and vitality by learning more about how we maintain a safe and sustainable supply of drinking water.”
For more than 35 years, AWWA and its members have celebrated Drinking Water Week – a unique opportunity for both water professionals and the communities they serve to join together to recognize the vital role water plays in our daily lives. Additional information about Drinking Water Week can be found at www.awwa.org.
Founded in 1881, the American Water Works Association is an international, nonprofit, scientific and educational society committed to the safety and improvement of water quality and supply. Focusing its work in four strategic areas, Knowledge Creation and Exchange, Leadership and Advocacy, Member Engagement and Development, and Organizational Stewardship, AWWA unites the full spectrum of the water community to advance water management, education and science and to advocate for smart water policies.
“The event should be a lot of fun for everyone,” said Scott Young, Water and Wastewater Department Manager at TUB.

The event is family-friendly, and everything is free! Come on out to TUB for an afternoon of food, prizes, and fun.

Parking will be available in TUB’s north and south parking lots, with a golf cart escort to help people to and from the event.

For more information on the event, call Tullahoma Utilities Board at 455-4515, or stop by the office at 901 South Jackson Street Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
