The Wildcats traveled to Walker Valley last night, a win would advance them to the State Tournament, a loss ends their 2012 season. Tullahoma started Jordan Sheffield on the bump and the Mustangs started Bobby Townce. Inning one went quickly for the cats as their three batters were retired after only eight pitches from Townce. The Mustangs battled with Sheffield in the first inning, forcing Jordan to throw over 14 pitches. Ultimately Walker Valley would strand two base runners and score nothing in the first, score 0-0. The next three innings were similar to the first at the plate, Townce making quick work of the Cats batters, three up and three down. Jordan Sheffield found his grove in the second and retired the Mustangs bats early through the next four innings, three up and three down. Tullahoma got their first hit in the third, when Sebastion Charboneau hit a gapper between first and second which rolled all the way to the outfield fence. Sebastion was able to stretch it our for three bases. Garrett Caldwell was the next Cat to bat and hit a lazer to first base which he caught and then threw to third, catching Charboneau off the bag, completing the double play for the Mustangs. The score after four, still 0-0. Tullahoma’s Jordan Moore had a base hit in the fifth but the Cats next three batters could get nothing done at the plate, stranding the runner at first, score after five, 0-0. Tullahoma continued to struggle in the sixth, unable to get a runner on base, while the Mustangs were able to get a base runner in the sixth when Jordan Sheffield walked his second batter of the night. The Cats defense battled back and sat the next three batters down, score after six, still tied at zero. Tullahoma was able to get two base runners in the seventh but Townce ended the inning with his fifth strike out of the night. The seventh went scoreless as the six innings before, sending the game into OT. Tullahoma’s batters continued to struggle in the eigth, unable to get a runner on base and going three up and three down, for the sixth time of the night. The Cats defense opened the eighth with two strike outs by Jordan Sheffield putting them one out away from going to nine, but those were followed up by a walk and a hit batter, Mustangs were given a gift of runners on first and second. Jordan Sheffield was pulled from the mound by Coach White after giving the next batter a first pitch of a ball. Justus Sheffield took the mound pitching two strikes in a row before his third pitch was hit between first and second by Walker Valley’s Matthew Simmon, scoring the game winning run. Mustangs win, 1-0 after eight. The Top Rehab Player of the Game was Jordan Sheffield. He struck out eight batters and held Walker Valley to zero points through seven innings.
