Tullahoma Wildcats celebrate win at home plate after Jordan Sheffield walk-off home run. Photo by Tim Lampkin.
Tullahoma has faced Siegel each of the last three years as its first game in Region 4 AAA tournament play. Tullahoma traveled to Siegel twice over the last two years and won a nail biter both time, 2-1 in 2010 and 1-0 in 2011. This year’s contest promised to be different. Tullahoma was hosting the game this year and the Tullahoma faithfull were hoping for a big win. Starting pitcher Justus Sheffield (with help of a stingy defense) held Siegel scoreless through two innings. The Stars plated the first run in the fourth, going up on the Cats 1-0. It would not be until the fifth when Tullahoma would first score a run. Lead of hitter, Jordan Sheffield hit a triple with two outs, giving Tullahoma a runner in scoring position. Zack Lampkin followed up Jordan’s hit with a triple, which after an overthrown ball at third base, turned into an in the park homer, Tullahoma took the lead 2-1. The score remained tied until the top of the seventh, when Siegel tied up the score 2-2. Jordan Sheffield, lead off hitter in the seventh, in storybook fashion, with a 1-1 count, hit a walk-off home run to win the game as the crowd and players went wild! Tullahoma defeats Siegel again, 3-2. The winning pitcher for Tullahoma was Justus Sheffield, with 10 strike-outs. The Top Rehab Player of the game was Jordan Sheffield, responsible for 2 of the Cats three points and giving them the win with the home run. Tullahoma will next play against Riverdale at home, one of the few Rutherford County teams the Cats have not played this year. Game time has not been decided at this time.
